Do Good Today

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” – Galatians 6:9

I think a lot of times when I read this verse, I read it like this: I’m at my last leg, I’m drained, but I’m still helping my neighbor, still putting myself second, still loving people above my situation - and I’m holding on because something good is going to come out of this thing I’m sacrificing for. And yeah, that’s part of it…but I’m realizing it’s so much bigger than that.

Right now, I’m in this weird in-between space - it kind of feels like I’m in purgatory. I know something new is coming. My life is changing. But it’s not here yet. So I’m here, in today, while my excitement is already halfway into tomorrow. And if I’m honest, that excitement can actually steal from the good I’m supposed to be doing right now.

I keep thinking, “When I get there, then I’ll start…then I’ll take better care of myself…then I’ll focus more on the Word…then I’ll have the energy to pour into people.” But what if God isn’t waiting for me to be in my “ideal” situation before He wants me to do good? What if He cares just as much about how I live in the mundane, or in the waiting, or in the middle of a storm?

I think back to when life was chaos, when my dad was sick, when grief was everywhere, and I was desperate for God. Every breath felt like, “I need You.” I don’t want to wait for another crisis to live that way.

I don’t want to wait for a “better” season to love people well, to pursue God, to take care of what He’s entrusted me with.

So here’s where I’m landing: whether I’m in the trial, in the comfort, or somewhere in between, I don’t want to grow tired of doing good. I want “do good today” to be the model. Not when it’s convenient. Not when the next opportunity finally comes. Today.

Because the harvest isn’t just some future reward, it’s being refined now, growing closer to Him now, and letting your life be a testimony that points others to Jesus. That when they see you trust Him in the trial, in the waiting, and in the joy, they’re encouraged that they can follow Him there too. So, stay focused. Be faithful with what’s in front of you. “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24) And do not grow weary in doing good, for at the right time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
